I'm Moving!

In the interest of a more sleek design space for From Borough to Borough, I've decided to move the blog over to Wordpress. Here's the new link. I'm still working out some of the kinks in terms of designs and customization, but all the content will be there from now on.

My Yahoo Debut

As you may know, I will be graduating this semester (yay!). I wrote a brief op-ed type piece about my expectations for Yahoo, so please check it out and leave comments and love and such.

Dinner for One

This week for Blogs @ Baruch, I have to write a restaurant review (to be posted this Saturday!). Since we blog in groups, we had to visit the restaurant once with the group and second time individually. Because of my unusually hectic schedule, I decided to just get it over with and go today after my last class.

The last time I dined alone in "public" was three years ago when I was still at Widener, which was a ghost town and I do wonder if the dining hall counts as public. Either way, it took a very long time for me to get used to it and eventually I just accepted the fact that it was a simple matter of a moment of brief public scrutiny vs. starvation.

As I sat in Pongal, incessantly texting to prove that, 'yes, indeed, I do actually have friends, they're just not actually here' I wondered what others around me were thinking. And it's probably what I myself wonder when I see someone eating alone in public - just why exactly are they dining alone? Are they lonely? Are they waiting for someone? Have they been stood up?

I wondered why there's such a stigma about being alone in this society in general. We're expected to get married and pop out babies by a certain age. God forbid we should ever have a spare moment alone lest we be labeled social pariahs or manic depressive.

Or it could just be (and probably is) my insecurity and paranoia about being watched and observed, when in actuality, this is not the case.

I'd like to strive for the persona of -wow, that girl is so confident. she just does whatever the hell she wants. crazy.- until, I get there maybe I'll just stick to take out!

MoMI Expansion

So, for Blogs@Baruch, I've been working on a feature story about the movie palace, Tut's Fever, inside the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria. That post will be up soon, but I did want to give my thoughts on the museum's recent expansion.

My first experience at the museum was just about a year ago on a trip with my Film History class (college field trips ftw) I was really blown away by the entire place- from the classic arcade video games to the  portraits Hollywood's most notable actors and actresses. Writing the feature story gave me an excuse to go and check out the newly revamped space.

On the third floor, they've added a bunch of interactive, 3-D exhibits. Maybe it's my personal bias against 3D anything (too gimmicky, not enough substance), but I just wasn't really impressed. Which I hate to say, because, as previously stated, the museum pre-expansion is amazing but I think the space could have been utilized so much more efficiently. Hopefully, they'll rotate in some new exhibits soon.

This doesn't mean you shouldn't still go, in fact, Fridays, the museum has free admission on Fridays from 4-8 pm. If that's not incentive enough, then I don't know what is!

P.S. Having some issues uploading pics, once I figure it out, they'll be up asap.

Temporary Blogging Location

This semester, I'm taking a course called Blogging About Culture (right up my alley, right?). Either way, you can read a new entry written by yours truly every Saturday at Blogs @ Baruch. I write under the name lisagomez. One word. Like Madonna. Except not...

Whichever.

My Hiatus

I know I've been (very) MIA the past couple of months, but I've been ridiculously busy trying (and sometimes succeeding!) to maintain balance in my life. [Listen, you try finishing up college, working, running a club, & keeping up a blog and tell me it's easy!]

BUT, I promise I'll have some good stuff for you in a few weeks.

I Went to Fashion's Night Out and All I Got Was This Stupid T-Shirt

...and a glass of champagne. So, I think it's absolutely just me, but I didn't really enjoy Fashion's Night Ot the way I thought I would. Okay, granted, I only went for the freebies, but there were too many people, too many lines for me to think it was worth it. Next year, I think I'll take advantage of the online FNO sales. FNO is 100% for die hard fashionistas and not 'well I like clothes'. Despite this, I took a picture of this crazy free t-shirt I got from Marc Jacobs.

Where does one even wear this? Bed? The gym? Right now, I'm wearing it to bed. But, damn. Who thought this was a good idea? Aside from that, check out a couple of other photos I took at FNO below:
